FEBRUARY 12, National Freedom to Marry Day
On National Freedom to Marry Day, all Marriage Equality USA® Chapters and Member Organizations will participate in Marriage Equality USA’s National Freedom to Marry Events. Marriage Equality USA® has also partnered with Join the Impact for this national event. Thursday, February 12, 2009, at local marriage counters in cities all over the country, same-sex couples will request marriage licenses at their local County Clerk’s Offices to raise awareness of the harms and impact the inability to marry causes on their families.

Since 2001, Marriage Equality USA® chapters have engaged in these annual marriage counter actions to render visible the discrimination that is enforced every day. It is an affront to our basic dignity as fellow human beings when same-sex couples are turned away from the marriage counter, but it gives us the opportunity to tell our stories and show that we live in every community and want to honor and protect our families like everyone else. Everyone who supports marriage equality is welcomed to attend and support this event. Contact <info@marriageequality.org> http://www.marriageequality.org

FEBRUARY 14, SATURDAY SACRAMENTO - LOVE AND MARRIAGE PROTESTS
Show up at your local County Recorders office and request a marriage license as a same sex couple – get denied, then get back in line and keep requesting a marriage license. Marriage Equality USA has done this protest for years, more important this year, everyone should show up in protest of the loss of LGBTQI equal rights. Contact Christine Allen <coordinator@marriageequality.org> http://www.marriageequality.org

FEBRUARY 17, TUESDAY 2009 Marriage Lobby Day
On Tuesday, February 17, join activists from across the state for Equality California’s MARRIAGE LOBBY DAY at the California State Capitol (Sacramento). Be there to urge your legislators to support SR 7 (Leno) and HR 5 (Ammiano), companion resolutions calling for the repeal of Proposition 8.  Join us and tell your stories about the importance of marriage equality in your lives.

The event is free and open to all. We’ll start the day at 9:30am with lobby training, have a noontime rally to hear from legislative champions, and do lobby visits and other activities in the afternoon. Come participate!  Make your voice heard and make a difference!  Register now at www.eqca.org <http://www.eqca.org>  or contact Laurie McBride at <LobbyDayEQCA@comcast.net>.

Event Name: IDES OF MARCH - STATEWIDE CANVASSING DAY TO REPEAL PROP 8
Location: All across California.
Date: March 15, 2009
Time: 10am - 6 pm
Description: Gays United Network is hosting a statewide canvassing day where we go out into outlying communities–especially those that voted for Prop 8–to collect signatures for a Petition drive on behalf of the Courage Campaign to restore the integrity to our Constitution and dignity to our Community by putting our own Constitutional Amendment on the ballot in 2010.

We strongly believe that we must walk through our fears and outside of our comfort zones and into the lion’s den in order to slay the dragon so we can bring back the boon.

We’re hoping to make a dent on Courage Campaign’s goal of collecting over 1 million signatures on a Petition drive to repeal Prop 8.

This statewide canvassing day is planned for the Ides of March (March 15, 2009 from 10am-6pm; there will be six 2 hour shifts), as this is an auspicious day and we wanted to honor the Roman tradition.

The Ides of March was a festive day dedicated to the god Mars and a military parade was usually held. We thought this was fitting as this will be the day when the Gay Army canvasses the streets and neighborhoods in towns and cities all across California working in solidarity for our common inevitable liberty.

The Ides of March is also a day when Julius Caesar was assassinated and we picked this day to signify our goal of slaying the evil of religious bigotry, intolerance and tyranny once and for all! We’re giving them a fair warning that their victory will be short lived.

We cannot put all our eggs in one basket and wait until the Supreme Court sides with us and invalidate Prop 8.

Oral Arguments on Prop 8 cases are set for the first week of (3/2-3/6) March 2009. Let’s remind the Supremes while they deliberate OUR FATE that we are still here and we will not be SILENCED or IGNORED and we sure as hell INTEND on getting our CIVIL RIGHTS BACK.

Please join hundreds of thousands of your fellow Gay brothers and sisters and our allies as we embark on this Vision Quest.

HELP us cross the threshold of Marriage Equality in California, our Golden State!

LOCAL FIELD ORGANIZERS ARE NEEDED.

Please step up to help us organize in your towns and cities. FYI…I was one of the field organizers that canvassed the streets of West Hollywood during the No on 8 Campaign and I have been involved in the Georgians Against Discrimination Campaign where we canvassed the neighborhoods. I can’t tell you how empowering it was to look our fellow citizens in the eye and connect on a human level. Something happens to you when a light goes off in the other person’s eyes when they realized how unfair it is that their fellow citizens whom are their equals have to come knocking on their doors to make a case for their civil liberty. When that happens it is nothing less than triumph of the human Spirit!

I hope to see all of you on the battlefields, my brothers and sisters! JOIN US!
