I know that we have not updated the JTI blog in almost a year, and doubt that many people will even visit this site to see our take on today’s ruling, but I felt that it was fitting to conclude this blog on a wonderful day like today!
I am so grateful to amazing groups like the Courage Campaign and the American Foundation for Equal Rights! I don’t know where our community would be without them! Prop 8 fueled me to start this website, which began a journey for me on November 7th in 2008, when myself and Willow Witte called for a national protest of Prop 8. Today, this chapter concludes with the happiest of tears and an eager sensation to see what’s next. Others will hear the news today and find themselves just starting their journey.
When I started Join the Impact, it was meant to be a blog; Nothing more than a website to draw attention to issues that I thought would start with a call to action. I was not prepared for the organization it would sprout or the mass response, which amazes me whenever I think about it. This lack of preparation is mainly why I haven’t posted to this blog in over a year. Regardless, November 15th, 2008 was the most inspirational experience of my life and it was because hundreds of thousands of you came out and made an impact. I was so lucky to witness the heart that exists in all of us especially since it came from something so heartless.
Today seems like a fitting day to thank you all for how you have impacted me. Thank you!
Prop 8 led to many people stepping up to fight, and today, we were able to see what can happen when some amazing minds (like AFER, Boise, and Olsen) come together to fight for what’s right. They just made a tremendous impact on our nation and our history, which was chronicled through Prop8TrialTracker.com, MarriageTrial.com, and Testimony Equality On Trial. And this impact, will have a ripple effect spanning thousands of miles and years! We are all lucky to have witnessed this amazing point in history and so lucky for those amazing minds mentioned above that made it happen.
If any of you are reading this, thanks for coming to this site to see what’s going on. There are many great JTI chapters who keep the Join the Impact name going strong and they have done some amazing things in their states/cities. This site, wasn’t meant to be a national organization… there are too many other amazing national organizations out there that need your support… maybe one day I’ll turn JoinTheImpact.com into what it was meant to be… but until then, thanks for making it mean something!!

Congratulation! I’m a campaigner for same-sex marriage rights in australia. We’ve all taken great inspiration from the mass mobolisations in the US and it’s so wonderfull to see california at least so close to a Victory now. I’ve seen there are demonstrations around the country it’s so important that we continue to take part in these- because what prop 8 taught is that we need to not only fight to get our rights. but fight to keep them!
