Across the country in hundreds of cities, we came together on December 20th in vigil. This was a protest in the spirit of the holiday season, and one that helped us reach 1 Million people with our message of equality. While we didn’t change the hearts and minds of all 1 Million, we did change the lives of many. This highly successful event grew our base, and that growth will show with our next goal: 1 Million Signatures.
On January 10th, 2009 we ask that you join us to unite again! This movement WILL NOT BE WON WITHOUT VISIBILITY. 50 Cities across the country have already jumped on board to organize. And that’s just in a few days of planning. We got 300 cities with 1 week of notice on November 15th. We can easily exceed that this time around. So, on January 10th, we ask that you join us in your city for one or all of the following events:
- A protest in your area to bring attention to DOMA and the promise that Barack Obama made to repeal DOMA.
- Organize a transportation unit in your city to get people to the closest DOMA protest
- Canvas your city to get signatures for our Open Letter to Barack Obama.
In response to President-elect Barack Obama’s “Open Letter to the Gay Community,” we ask that you join us in signing our “Open Letter to Barack Obama,” to be revealed soon. It’s time we show the government how numerous we are. We need to show our impact and we’re going to take it to the White House!
The work done over this weekend will help us achieve and exceed this important goal. Help us get 1 Million signatures, and we’ll get it the letter in Obama’s hands.

I am unbelievably angry at the US for not signing the declaration. Land of the free? Liberty and Justice for all? I beg to differ. Great video - I will definitely be attending this protest.

GIve it up!!!!!!!! You are lucky to get a 100,000 nationwide which is nothing. DOMA passed in Bill Clintons administration by a veto proof margin and he signed it. Every gay marriage ban amendment has passed by a strong majority. You can’t get many people on this site to leave comments. Marriage is a right but who you can marry has always been regulated by the state. There are restrictions for other people as well. You don’t see them whining about it. Yes, it is a matter of state and the people said NO!!!!!!!! Therefore your demonstrations only serves to defeat your own efforts because it shows you to be anti democratic and disrespecting the peoples voice in this country.

Tristine - get off this site if you really feel that way. I am sure you can take your comments to some other site that would appreciate your point of view; you could be a rock star on Sarah Palin’s site!

No Virgil, I will not submit to gay bully tactics of silencing voices you don’t want to hear. Everytime someone says something you don’t like you try to force them into silence. It must be infuriating that you couldn’t shut out the voices at the ballot box. But those voices will be heard. And the voices say NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gay marriage is not right and shouldn’t be allowed. It is wrong. The American people will not be bullied into silence.

Tristine, why do you come here unless you want to cause problems? You know your message (which is actually far right talking points that are posted all over the internet) will not be well received by these readers. But you come and disrupt anyway. What a chicken sh!t thng to do.

Someone has to stand up to you people. You disrupt our schools, our churches and our lives. So yes you need to hear it again on your own propaganda machine of the far left. We have no choice but to fight back.
No to gay marriage.

How dare you disrupt this site by claiming we are all being disrupted by gay folks. No Tristine, these “people” don’t disrupt our schools. I have been a teacher for 35 years and I can report that never once in all that time has my classroom or my school or my district been “disrupted” by gay people. They also have never disrupted my personal life and I don’t understand how allowing them to marry will harm my marriage of 33 years. If you oppose gay marriage, don’t have one. It’s a very simple solution and will save you lots of time.

They disrupt our schools when they insisit that gay marriage is taught in schools. They disrupt our churches when they insist on being married in them. They disrupt our freedoms when people like you say I can speak my mind where I want just like the gays do. If you don’t like me in your life get out of ours.

I also am a teacher, but a college teacher. In that capacity, and also from my daughter’s group of friends in high school, I’ve gotten to know several gays quite well and found those individuals to be exceptionally kind and creative. They clearly did not choose to be gay or to make trouble. They have suffered enormously because they were born as a minority. However, they can and do fall in love just like we do. Love is a good thing. Their love should be honored and legally protected just as ours is.
1. “They disrupt our schools when they insisit that gay marriage is taught in schools.”
Do you think blacks disrupted our schools because they insisted that blacks be granted the full range of rights granted to other human beings? People need to be educated that gays are not evil beings but simply people who were born with a genetically less common sexual orientation than you were. If you find teaching equality to be disruptive to our schools, it seems to me that you have problems with some of the basic tenets of our government.
2. “They disrupt our churches when they insist on being married in them.”
I don’t think gays are trying to force any churches to marry them that do not wish to do so. There are a number of churches that are quite willing to marry gays. The problem is that the marriages are not legally recognized. It’s the law that we want to change, not your religion. For example, although abortion is legal, churches are quite free to forbid it of their members.
3. “They disrupt our freedoms when people like you say I can speak my mind where I want just like the gays do. “
I agree that you should be able to speak your mind where you want to.
4. “If you don’t like me in your life get out of ours.”
Nobody is trying to get in your life and prevent you from marrying the person you love. All the gays are trying to do is claim their civil rights, something they should have done a long time ago but were afraid to do because of the violent reactions of people who for some reason hate them. Why would you be so bothered by someone choosing a committed relationship over promiscuity and/or loneliness?

Tristine,
YOU are the bully. You must feel like such a prophet to bring us all the “word”. Well, I have one word for you - hate. That is the only word that you and your kind understand! Whether you like it or not, love will prevail and you will have to deal with “our kind” for a whole lot longer, so you better get use to it. We aren’t going anywhere. So, you can have your pathetic fun by spreading hate on a site that was meant to promote something greater. Enjoy that self-righteous feeling, but it won’t last long!

Well said MJ. Thank you.

Beautiful video, and well put. Can you please add the links to the open letter and signature pages to this article so that those reading it can download them asap? I think the addition of those two links would make this all the more a successful event.

Tristine, if you are seeking attention, go get it somewhere else. Your life must be that miserable to lurk in a gay website and talk shit about us gay people. Yes, prop 8 passed. We KNOW that. But, do you people really think we will just fold and let you guys get away with it? It’s easy for people like you to just say we lost, suck it up, and get over it. Well, it’s not that easy for us to let that go. It’s OUR life, OUR future that is involved here. How do we disrupt your schools? Now that prop 8 passed, do you guys really think that children won’t hear, won’t see or won’t learn about gays? Children will see gay people everywhere. Holding hands, kissing each other, loving each other. Prop 8 can’t stop that. and you know what, just for pissing me off, i’ll tell kids it’s okay to be gay, it’s okay to be inlove with same sex and it’s PERFECTLY OKAY to marry someone of the same sex. Discrimination is no place in this world. If that’s the case, since im a nurse.. would it be okay for me to treat straight people differently? of course i won’t do that.. because i am not like you. i see people equally.
