  2. CB Said,

I passed most of this separately to State organizers who had an email address posted to their “Impact” event. Since I don’t have facebook, those listed with only facebook sites, I was unable to contact.

A woman in the UK is helping out. She has offered the use of talent with her artwork for the equality marches. She is allowing anyone and everyone to download the images she has created just for this event. This is totally FREE! Now, some are more for the professional printers, but some can be downloaded by the layman for their website or personal use. She has larger size pics and some smaller ones, plus ones which can be expanded; those are without words, and I suspect you need the program and a large press to do poster size with those. A couple suggestions were offered in the Towleroad comment section concerning the pics; one was to print out both graphics and put them side by side on your sign, another was to print them out on T-shirt transfer paper and iron them on a T-shirt.

I’m the first to admit my talent in art is limited to stick figures, so if you, or your supporters are like me, I encourage you to take advantage of this womans wonderful offer and work, and leave her a comment of thanks from the U.S., and International organizers/supporters.

Her website address was posted on both the Impact website and Towleroad comment section (pretty much buried in both websites). I live in the U.S. and don’t know this UK artistic woman, nor am I affiliated with the “Impact” or “Towleroad” websites. I thought this was noble of her and I thought I would pass it on.

Her Website can be found @ http://williehewescomics.blogspot.com/2008/11/h8-graphics.html

I would recommend that main overall organizers of this website contact and send a press release to the large news organizations like CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, BBC, BBC America, BBC Canada, FOXNEWS(?), etc. and let local organizers contact their local affiliates.

I truly hope each of you have a successful “Impact” in your state.

    -CB-

  3. Carson Said,

The mission statement needs to be edited by someone with language expertise. I’m not qualified to do it, but I did notice at least two instances of “stear” that should be “steer”. It should also probably be “pit” communities against each other, not “pin”.

Thanks for all the work being done here.

  8. Em Dali Said,

    Hi,
It would actually increase conversion rates (the number of people posting the press release) for you to just POST it here, on the site as a WordPress page. You can make dynamic changes such as Carson suggests, inline by just editing the page anytime you like. If you ask people to subscribe to the post’s RSS feed (a widget you can activate in WordPress) then they will be informed each time you make a revision to the page.

    Simple, easy!

    With hope for the future,
    Em

  17. PY Said,

    Dear Friends,

In my lifetime, I have never heard such a sigh of relief, around the world, because one man was able to inspire Americans to make a difference. A mantra, might I add, that was once core to our country’s success and well-being.

I voted for Obama. I also voted no on Amendment 2 here in Florida and we didn’t win that one. I donated to the No on 8 campaign in California. It amazes me that that California’s constitution has gone the same discriminatory route as so many others.

I guess we need a Gay, Lesbian, and Transgendered version of Dr. Martin Luther King. It is my hope that our movement for equal rights and protection has soon reaches that critical mass that will propel such a person forward. Indeed, in the past 10 to 15 years, we thought we could take the battle to the courts and win. And while we have had limited success in that manner, we still have not changed the minds of a majority of Americans including some of our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.

Demographically, the attitudes have changed among younger voters and some day that will be to everyone’s benefit. However, if history is a good teacher, we know that people under thirty are often overwhelmed by the members of Generation X and the Baby Boomers when it comes to policy making and voting. Even with Mr. Obama as president, we will still see a legislative catering to this segment of the population.

If we and those sympathetic to our rights struggle do not continue to make voices heard and positions known, another generation will pass before we can have action in our government on our behalf that is more than just pandering and appeasement. Do we really want to wait until our time is short in this life to obtain the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution? Any victory is, no matter how small, worth pursuing. But, I would so much prefer to hold a grand celebration of equality in the next few years, while in my 40’s, than to wait until I am in my 60’s. I would much rather say, at the age of 65, that I have been married for 25 years to my partner than for 5 years.

Mr. Obama has shown us what a true grass roots effort can accomplish with the right amount of perseverance, sacrifice and belief in a common goal.

We need to take what we have learned and apply it to make sure our own lives are viewed by the same standards as we view others. We need to make sure the eyes of the law see us as they recognize others. We cannot allow ourselves to be second class citizens in this great nation. We need to put our fears aside and step out into the open to further propel this wave of change to every corner of the country.

We can do this, just as others have before us. The margins in many of the these votes are not insurmountable. But we can’t sit quietly and wait for others to do it for us. 20 years ago, the California initiative would have had a much wider spread but not so today. We are so close that failure to continue to act cohesively would be a tragedy in so many ways.

I hope this letter and my thoughts spark each of us to take action that will leave little doubt in everyone’s minds that we are serious and dedicated. That we as individuals, partners and families will pursue our rights until there is another sigh of relief around the world that America truly does stand for that which is written in our Constitution.

    Sincerely,
    P Y

  19. Nico Girardi Said,

These are suggestions from an older gay living abroad. Every gay and lesbian in San Francisco should go to a Mormon church service wearing a T shirt saying Hate Eight and force them to physically eject gay people from the church. The same should go for a Roman Catholic Church service. Sit in the front row on Sunday with the T shirts. All nonviolent — but forcing them to show their hate for what it is. Find the homes of the organizers of Prop 8 and start a vigil — and exercise your First Amendment rights to send them LOTS of emails and phone calls. Blacks did not get the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed because Lyndon Johnson loved them — they got it because they set Washington on fire. While I would advocate a more ML King style, that is a lesson to remember. Disrupt and turn them into villains in the media. It worked before and it can again.

  20. Marc Said,

Protests are a good way to bring alot of attention to a cause quickly, But are to soon forgotten by the people. A way to tell this states we as a community, are no longer going to sit back and take this. Is to start compiling a list of product produced by these states, and stop buying from them. Money is one of the biggest motivators around. Most of these are big tourist state, stop going, stop buying OJ from Florida, wine from California, etc. Start a web site Stop Supporting States that Ban Gay Rights.

We (San Francisco’s GLBTQ2QASSI… Community) are with you 1,000%. As the newly founded Coalition for NO (H)8, We are the local grassroots leaders that will keep the dignity while making our voices known.

We are organizing Peaceful Marches, Demonstrations (civil and responsibly disobedient), Candlelight Vigils, and Rallies to inform, open dialogue, allow proactive diatribes, and Continue the Fight for our Rights that Saint Harvey Milk started 30+ years ago in San Francisco’s Castro District.

Please be assured that we JOIN THE IMPACT to show the world we are cognizant of our role and are in agreement with this action.

We are extremely angry at the originators of this indignity and believe that the contractual division of Church and State has been breached.

We will not allow this to continue and will halt any further actions against our given California Constitutional Rights (May 15, 2008 - In re Marriage Cases (2008) 43 Cal.4th 757 [76 Cal.Rptr.3d 683, 183 P.3d 384]).

You all have OUR SUPPORT form vancouver CANADA.

IS there ANY economic boycotts that gays can all band together and enact? Any hetro hotels, stores that gay people usually patronize… I have always found ‘peoples emotions come from their pocketbooks…. As for those mormons, I have no idea what makes them tick so much-why do all these hateful acts start from a religious base. I dont have a faith /religion…until there is one with no “hate” I am an athiest.

  23. Anna Said,

I think you guys are making a mistake by calling this a protest against Proposition 8. The people affected by that proposition have already made their voices heard. They already voted and lost. This should be a demonstration FOR gay rights, not AGAINST a proposition passed in California. I heard about this on a Twin Cities message board, and even though most people there support gay rights, they are disregarding this protest because Prop 8 is over and done with.

  27. Starhills Said,

We need to do more after these protests to engage those who are open minded but still “not comfortable” with Same Sex Marriage. How can we get mainstream media to engage in a discussions where we can really ask what the fear is all about concerning marriage equality? Wouldn’t Bill Moyers or Oprah be willing to press Prop 8 supporters to explain what negative outcome would ensue from making Marriage available to everyone? Ask them if they have any evidence of societal harm in locations where Marriage Equality has been achieved, here in the USA and abroad. And as delighted as we are by the Presidential campaign, let’s not forget that Barack Obama is still on the wrong side of the issue of full Marriage Equality, whether for political expediency or his heartfelt personal position.
